The 34-year-old pulled the girl - Cyra Milne - on stage to sing happy birthday to her in front of the huge crowd in Cooper Park.

He said: "There was a wee six-year-old screaming at me at the barrier, and I saw a birthday cake, so I assumed it was her birthday and invited her onto the stage.

"I don't know how many thousands of people are here - maybe 15,000 - but we all sang her happy birthday.

"I hope she enjoyed herself. She looked a bit scared when she got up - but it was a lovely thing to do.#

"You never know - she might be coming to my gigs until she is 60, if I'm still alive!"

Beattie's set overall was well-received - and he was happy to play to a big crowd in Elgin, having played at the Drouthy Cobbler when he started out.

He added: The crowd was amazing. Despite the cold weather, they were all jumping about.

"It was my first big gig in Elgin and hopefully not my last.

"When I first started out, about 15 years ago, I used to play at a The Drouthy Cobbler.

"I used to sell maybe 15 tickets, but they were great gigs and I remember them well. I'm sure there are a few people who were there who were in the crowd today, so that's nice.

"I'm very grateful to be invited here. I love coming to the Highlands and I get to play my own music, which is even better, so I thoroughly enjoyed myself."
