A WORLDWIDE party is being organised by a Moray charity to celebrate its fifth birthday later this year.

Busega Scotland, which is based in Garmouth and works in the African country of Tanzania, has supporters from across the globe.

Now, the charity is encouraging those supporters to organise their own celebrations.

John Carney from Busega said: "We are trying to encourage as many parties as possible and on every continent.

"Why involve the world? Well, for starters, to show the young people at the children’s centre where we work in Tanznia that there's a big world

out there and enable them to learn a bit more about it.

"We also want to let the children know that there are people in other countries who care about them.

"And, finally, we want to have some fun and be part of a unique global party.

"We are celebrating five hard but joyful years working with children and families in Mayega, a town in Tanzania.

"Much has been achieved. Destitute live have been transformed at the children’s centre.

"Young people when they leave the centre have also been supported to find work through vocational education.

"Women's groups have also empowered 120 extremely poor families.

"Meanwhile, piped water supplies have been brought to 2,500 people.

"All this has been done through the tireless efforts of 10 Tanzanian staff, plus volunteers in the UK and supporters everywhere.

"We want to celebrate our success together by having as many parties as possible around the world, culminating in the Big Mayega Party at the

children’s centre in November.

"Parties can be large or small and take many different forms – maybe a picnic, BBQ, lunch, a coffee morning, a works night out, a meal together – there are no limits."

Locally, a celebratory party is being planned at the Qismat Tandoori restaurant in Elgin on Tuesday, October 8.
