Speyside High award-winners congratulated by head teacher Patricia Goodbrand
SPEYSIDE High head teacher Patricia Goodbrand has congratulated the school's award winners after a "particularly difficult" year.
A number of pupils were given awards, with the Dux, awarded for academic excellence, going to fifth year pupil Faye Iannetta. Runner-up was Tomas Campbell.
- A full list of special awards can be seen at the bottom of the article.
Mrs Goodbrand said: "This year’s achievements are beyond what we can celebrate in our traditional manner.
"I am delighted, however, to congratulate every young person who has gained an award this year at Speyside High School. These awards reflect hard work and dedication, but only represent a small number of young people’s achievements.
"I would particularly like to congratulate Faye Iannetta who was awarded Dux for Speyside High School and Tomas Campbell as runner-up Dux.
John Barrowman sends message to Speyside High pupils.
"I know this collaborative work where everyone is looking after each other will continue as we resume school in August."
Mrs Goodbrand is looking forward to school reopening on August 11, and had a message of thanks for the school community – who she said had responded brilliantly to lockdown.
"It has been so humbling to see how the whole Speyside High School community has worked together to support each other’s mental and physical well-being," she said.
"High achieving has also taken on a much more holistic meaning. The achievements of young people, their families and colleagues have been amazing and wide ranging.
"In particular, the way school went into lockdown on March 23 and colleagues were posting work online from March 24, with young people and their families engaging with this very quickly.
"There have been a number of positive whole school activities during lockdown and I thank all colleagues, pupils and parents for making these possible.
"Whilst highlighting the positives, I would also like to recognise the difficulties and challenges many families and have had to deal with during this time.
"I am very much looking forward to welcoming all colleagues and young people back to Speyside High School in August, and I extend a special welcome to our new S1 young people.
"I would also like to send my very best wishes to all our leavers and wish you all the best in the future, each and every one of you have been a credit to Speyside High School and your families."
