A COMMUNITY which runs a popular whisky auction is looking for bottles for its 2020 event.

Craigellachie Village Council is compiling the catalogue for its 8th annual sale, which takes place as part of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.

Chairperson Jane Tweedie said: "The village council has gained a reputation for staging a very professional event, meeting the aspirations of sellers and buyers, while attracting interest from local, national and international whisky fans.

"We already have some extremely interesting entries and Sunday, May 3 is looking like being another very tempting day for whisky enthusiasts from all over the world!"

Anyone interested in selling a bottle at the auction should submit a seller registration form – obtained from www.craigellachie.org.uk – no later than 9pm on April 17.

Bottles must be delivered to Craigellachie Village Hall between 10am and 1pm on April 18. Donations of whisky would also be very welcome

Mrs Tweedie added: "In the past, we have received generous support from companies and individuals who have donated bottles for us to auction, with the full proceeds going to the village council.

"If anyone would like to consider supporting the village council by donating a bottle of whisky for us to auction, which would help us maintain the village hall and other recreational facilities in the village, then this would be very much appreciated. All donations for this purpose, from a run-of-the-mill blend to a distinctive malt, or an unusual bottling, will be very gratefully received."

Meanwhile, the village council and helpers are busy preparing for auction day and Colin Fraser, a professional auctioneer based in Edinburgh, will again be in charge of bidding.

Colin grew up in Craigellachie and comes back to the village each year to conduct the auction.

The catalogue will be available to view in due course on the village council website, where bidder registration forms and instructions can also be found.

Mrs Tweedie said: "The range of items entered in the auction will be very varied, including some sought-after Macallan bottles, and there is sure to be something to tempt everyone and suit all budgets. Whether buyers are looking for a bargain bottle, or a very special bottle to keep as an investment, Craigellachie Village Council's annual Whisky Auction, in Craigellachie Village Hall, is the place to be on the afternoon of Sunday, May 3."

On the day, the hall will be open for viewing from noon and the auction begins at 2pm. Entry to the hall is free of charge and refreshments will be on sale.
