THERE was a definite African beat to Buckie on May Day when a local church held a fundraising event with a difference.
Buckie North Church hall played to Aberdeen-based group Afristyle Dance Club recently.
They were there to help St Peter's RC Church raise cash for their organ fund.
Behind the innovative event were Fr Kingsley Chigbo and Fr Peter Ezekok, who are currently serving the church as priest and assistant priest respectively. Hailing from Nigeria, the duo not only wanted to reach out to the local community but also share some of their own culture, too.
Fr Kingsley took to the mic himself during the show, performing a couple of solos earlier on to much acclaim.
Afristyle performed for around two hours with the ladies' guild providing refreshments during the break. A generous raffle was also held.
The group comprise young adults who perform African dance, music and drama. They aim to promote youngsters’ good mental and physical health through dance, to build friendships amongst those from diverse backgrounds, to improve self-confidence and develop skills
