The north pier at Buckie Harbour has now been shut as a safety precaution due to damage to the road surface.

A spokesman for Moray Council, which runs the harbour, said: ““Following recent storms, there has been damage to the surface of the north pier, adjacent to basin 2.

“Access to this area already restricted, and this will continue to ensure safety. At this stage, there is no timescale for repair.

“Vessel operations will not be affected.”

It is believed the damage is such that the pier surface makes passage for both vehicles and pedestrians unwise. Estimates for the repair work are thought to be in the region of £100,000.

The matter is set to be discussed at the next Harbour Advisory Committee meeting.
