DJ Sammy’s MacMoray Festival included fish and chips in Cullen and seeing ‘stunning’ Elgin Cathedral
Spanish dance artist DJ Sammy - who arrived at MacMoray Festival wearing a full Scotland football tracksuit - has declared Elgin his “hometown” and said he “loved” fish and chips he ate in Cullen.
DJ Sammy, from Mallorca, had the audience jumping with fans changing the lyrics of his iconic cover of Bryan Adams to replace ‘heaven’ with ‘Elgin’.
The 54-year-old said his full Scotland tracksuit was a tribute to his Scottish fans - while he said he enjoyed eating a chippy bought at Cullen’s Linda's Fish and Chips.
“I bought it as respect to Scottish people,” he said about his tracksuit. “I know how nationalistic they are. They are very proud of their own flag.
“This is to integrate with the crowd and thank them for all the energy they give me - you should be polite in life!
“I loved the fish and chips. We ate in front of the sea and we fed the seagulls together. Even the seagulls cannot complain - they had great food with me!”
Lorena, singer and partner, added: We appreciated the cathedral (in Elgin). It is stunning.”
This is DJ Sammy’s second time performing at the MacMoray festival. He announced Elgin as his “hometown” after leaving the stage.
Speaking afterwards he joked: “I had the promoter of MacMoray Festival making me mental offers.
“He was begging me ‘please come back, people are asking for you’.”
Despite difficulties travelling, he came back to Elgin because he “didn’t want to disappoint the people” after the previous MacMoray Festival.
He added: “We had shows in Moray and it was impossible to come here with flight connections.
“But we really did our best to come because we didn’t want to disappoint the people. Last time we had a really good connection.
“We had to do all we can to be here and we made it. We do it for the crowd. We love it.”
