A TRIO of Moray butchers have been presented with awards for their top-of-the-range burgers and sausages.

A J Jamieson in Fochabers and SA Mackie in Aberlour were both presented with a number of gold and silver awards, while W Reid Butchers in Hopeman was given two silver awards.

Awards were dished out after the Scottish Craft Butcher Awards' evaluation for beef burgers, speciality burgers and speciality sausages – judged at Forth Valley College, Stirling, in March.

A J Jamieson's won gold awards for their Fochabers and Toulouse sausages and silver awards for their blackened cajun chicken and beef burgers.

Alan Jamieson said: "That is third or fourth award for the Fochabers sausage so it shows the quality when we continue to win.

"The last few weeks have just been absolutely mental and this just gives you a wee bit of a boost."

S.A Mackie's pork and haggis sausage won a gold award, while their beef, burns and sweet chilli pork burgers all received silver awards.

Stewart Mackie was delighted with the awards. He said: "It's a nice wee boost – especially just now. Hopefully with barbecue season coming up they will keep selling well.

"It was really busy for a while, in the peak at the beginning we must have been doing 40 to 50 deliveries a day and we were here until 9pm some nights.

"We are still doing 15 to 20 a day – which is not bad for a wee shop."

W Reid's beef burgers and breakfast bangers were given silver awards.

Owner Philip Robertson said: "It's a big achievement – we are delighted with it. It gives the boys, Nathan and Craig, a big of recognition and shows them their hard work is paying off."
