Police Scotland to step up speeding patrols in Roseisle as residents of Moray village say problem has got worse
Police Scotland will increase speeding patrols in a Moray village amid continued safety concerns.
Speeding issues were identified in Roseisle by a Moray Council survey in 2023 after residents raised concerns about the speed of traffic in the area.
Despite a 30mph speed limit being in place on the C25E, the average speed of vehicles on the road was recorded as 37.9mph.
Vehicles travelling into Roseisle from the Maltings averaged 36mph.
Highlands and Islands MSP Douglas Ross says the concerns of residents have not eased over the two years since the survey was conducted.
At a recent surgery in the village, Mr Ross says residents are warning the problem has got worse with dangerous driving resulting in pets being killed and fears pedestrians could be put at risk as well.
Mr Ross has yet to receive a response from Moray Council regarding his concerns.
However, Chief Inspector Mike McKenzie has confirmed police will increase patrols as well as undertaking more speed enforcement activity.
The police have confirmed they have also engaged with the council and added that GPS data will be reviewed to help identify opportunities to reduce speeding in the village.
Mr Ross said: “This has been a huge problem for years and has resulted in many terrifying incidents and near misses.
“It is deeply concerning to hear residents say the situation is getting worse so I welcome Police Scotland’s quick response confirming that they will increase patrols in the village and have engaged with the council to review GPS data.
“Residents cannot continue living in fear and I hope they will be somewhat reassured by a greater police presence in the village.
“I urge all motorists driving through Roseisle and across Moray to adhere to the speed limits to help keep our communities safe and I will continue to work with our police and council to urgently improve this situation and make residents lives more peaceful.”
