April the sheep has been busy giving folk a little something to smile about in difficult times.

The four-year-old Texel ewe is currently displaying this nifty rainbow design in support of key workers in the NHS and elsewhere.

The rainbow is the handywork of Rothes resident Claire Meldrum and her 13-year-old daughter Skye.

Claire said: "We've seen kids drawing all these wonderful rainbows in the windows of their homes, so we decided to do something ourselves.

"I wanted to pick the best sheep in my dad Lawrence's flock.

"But Skye insisted we chose April because she has a gentle nature and also belongs to her."

Claire got to work with spray paints of the type commonly used on sheep at lambing time so mothers and babies can be kept paired together.

She continued: "If I'd known April was going to get so much attention, I'd have painted both sides of her.

"Unfortunately, she spends quite a lot of her time facing the wrong way at the far side of the field.

"Some people in Rothes have gone past the field on their daily walk three or four times now and still not seen the rainbow.

"All the same, her picture has been featured on the 'Rothes and roon about' Facebook page, and she's receiving a brilliant reaction."

April, who was home-bred, is pictured below with her lamb Duncan.

The dad was a Logie Durno tup called Silver Mear Celtic.
