A charity fashion show planned for this weekend in Keith looks set to be an emotional event.

The sold-out show, which will feature models who have been effected by cancer, is being held in a marquee erected at Netherton Farm on the eastern edge of the town.

And it's coming in rapid succession to another event at the same venue in support of the Breast Cancer Now charity.

After a gap of three years due to the pandemic, this past weekend saw the return of Keith's Strawberry Teas – an annual fundraiser which has succeeded drumming up £58,700 since it was first held in 2009 .

More than 200 folk called by on both Saturday and Sunday to sample the fine food.

Trish Davidson, who lives at Netherton Farm, said: "It was great to be back and to see so many familiar faces again.

"There were also quite a few new ones who we hope will go on to become regulars.

"I want to say thank-you to all the people who helped. It would not be possible to do this without them.

"Some work full-time but still gave up their two days off to come along. It's just amazing."

Held in a picturesque marquee the annual event has come a long way since its first year when it took place inside a garage and raised £426.

It's now amongst the top 1% of fundraising events for Breast Cancer Now across the whole country.

Trish said: "I think that says something about the generosity of the people in Keith, especially as we're only a small town without a big population.

"We will keep doing the teas for as long as we can."

The upcoming fashion show this Saturday will showcase clothes supplied by Thingymijigs, Tesco and Blue Violet, the new boutique in Regent Square.

It will also feature afternoon tea, prosecco and a disco.

Trisha said: "We held out first fashion show three years ago to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the strawberry teas.

"It was a surprisingly emotional event.

"All seven of the models had been effected by cancer in some way.

"So it was great to see them happy and healthy.

"And it was also really good for them to get together, knowing they had been through the same treatment.

"They all became friends."

Trish added: "We originally weren't intending to hold another fashion show until the 15th anniversary.

"But we decided to do it again because charities have had such a difficult time because of the lack of events over the last two years."

Breast Cancer Now provides support for people effected by the condition and also funds research.

How much has been raised this year to add to the previous total of £58,700 will be reckoned up after the fashion show.
