THE Northern Lights were at their dazzling best over the weekend across the Moray Firth.

And there are predictions of further amazing displays of the natural phenomenom throughout this week.

Reader Andy Clark captured some great shots of the lights from Forres across Findhorn Bay.

The Northern Lights, also known as aurora borealis, are the result of solar particles entering the earth's magnetic field and ionizing high in the atmosphere.

Their intensity depends on the activity of the sun and the acceleration speed of these particles. They appear as dancing lights high in the sky and vary in colour.
