A second book is now available to read in The Northern Wave adventure trilogy which is set in and around Moray.

The Northern Wave, Book 2, by G A Ross.

Volume two continues the story of the Viking invasion and the clashes between the Norsemen and the fierce local Pictish inhabitants.

The author is George Ross, who grew up in Burghead and writes under the pen name G A Ross.

George, who's aged 74, says: "Archaeologists are currently discovering fascinating things about this period of history.

"We now know, for instance, that the fort at Burghead was burned down.

"But did the Vikings set fire to it?

"And did they do it when they invaded Moray or when they left?

"There's so much we still don't know.

"My books are a mixture of fact and fiction that aims to fill in the blanks."

George wrote all three books during lockdown.

His career in responding to marine oil spills had taken him all over the globe during the course of the previous four decades

Forced by the pandemic to remain in Aberdeen, he began writing as a form of escape.

He says: "I'd always wanted to write a book but never had time. Suddenly I no longer had an excuse.

"The words just flowed. So much so that I ended writing 1000 pages over three books.

"There was only one period when things began going off track, which meant tearing out a couple of chapters and starting afresh. However, apart from that the story just took on a life of its own.

"I loved writing it and I hope folk will enjoy reading the next instalment.

"It's not as violent as the Vikings series on TV, although it does have its fair share of grisly bits.

"The first book told about the initial invasion led by Sigurd, Jarl of Orkney.

"This second one is about the conquest of Moray and its inhabitants, the turmoil that ensued and the resistance by the Picts.

"The Norse had three commodities they valued more than anything – silver, silk and slaves.

"There's not much silver or silk in the north of Scotland, so you can see where this is going."

Like its predecessor, 'The Northern Wave, Book 2' is published by Michael Terence Publishing.

Both are available to buy on Amazon and Kindle.
