The Pipes are calling people of Forres
THE pipes are calling people in Forres to a public meeting to discuss hosting the European Pipe Band Championships.
The town was celebrating recently after it was announced that the championships will be held in Forres for three years from 2013-2015.
Now the hard work starts in organising the logistics of staging the event in the town.
A meeting will be held on Tuesday (April 17) at the Tolbooth (7pm) to gauge the level of interest in getting involved.
David Urquhart, joint managing director of Gordon and MacPhail, owners of Benromach Distillery, has urged as many people as possible to turn up.
"Where possible the project will be driven by the community of Forres and this is the first of many meetings to see who is willing to assist in the project," he said.
"The European Pipe Band Championships cannot and will not happen in Forres without the efforts and support of many willing volunteers," added Mr Urquhart, who was a key player in securing the event.
The jobs that will be involved in staging the championships will include: Seeking sponsorship, Grant Park management and security, Army liaison, trade stands, catering – VIP and others, beer tents, Parking – coaches and cars, ongoing contact centre and website, administration, finance, buildings/resources/infrastructure, marketing, council liaison, bowling club and Highland games liaison.
