Scottish exam results day - no wrong path to success for AES Solar’s health and wellbeing champion
There is no wrong path to success - that is the exam results day message from a woman who has climbed a company’s ladder without further education.
Today (Tuesday, August 6) is a momentous day for school pupils across Scotland as exam results are revealed.
Hannah Hilditch left Forres Academy a little more than a decade ago and joined local firm AES Solar - originally starting as an admin assistant in 2014.
Since then, Hannah has progressed through four positions, completed two SVQs and has taken on the role of company health and wellbeing champion.
She spoke on exam results day on her path, and what she has achieved in the last decade - without going to college or university.
She said: “I came to AES Solar straight from Forres Academy. I applied for the admin assistant role on leaving school.
“I didn’t know anyone else that worked in the renewables industry. It seemed like something different which intrigued me to explore it further.
“When I first started, the company was a lot smaller than it is now. I’ve had a number of positions increasing in responsibility over the years thanks to the support and guidance of the entire team.”
Hannah gave advice to youngsters who may be thinking about following in her footsteps and going straight from school into work.
“I have gone from managing files and the kettle to managing projects in my current role as Project Coordinator,” she explained.
“My advice to young people who want to go straight into the world of work after leaving school is to simply do your job well and work productively with your team members.
“Doing so can open doors in your career.”
AES Solar offer apprenticeships to school-leavers - with Hannah having worked with many of those over the years.
She added: “Apprenticeships are really important for attracting and retaining young people in Moray, giving them the opportunity to thrive.
“I recommend anyone who is determined, resilient and willing to learn to consider doing an apprenticeship with AES Solar.
“The apprentices are an invaluable addition and it is a joy to watch their confidence and knowledge grow.
“Our 100 per cent apprentice retention rate demonstrates what can be achieved to grow green skills and establish solar energy professionals in the Moray area.
