Elgin’s St Sylvester’s Primary School wins Euroquiz heats in Moray
St Sylvester’s Primary School in Elgin has won the Moray heats of Euroquiz for the second year in a row, qualifying for the national final.
Euroquiz is an annual competition run by SCILT, Scotland's National Centre for Languages, in which Primary 6 pupils from across the country answer questions on a range of topics related to Europe.
Eighteen primaries took part in the Moray heats this year – the largest number in the history of the quiz.
The team from St Sylvester’s, which came out on top, was made up of Cara Taylor, Matthew Flude, Sophie-Alice Goodwin and Rachel Morley; with reserves Jameel Hossain and Israel Adebayo.
They will go on to represent Moray at national finals in summer.
Chairwoman of Moray Council’s Education, Communities and Leisure Services Committee, Councillor Kathleen Robertson (Forres Conservative), said: “It was a tremendous effort from all of the children who participated in what was a closely contested competition.
“They should all be enormously proud of their efforts.
“I’d also like to congratulate St Sylvester’s for winning the Moray heats for the second year in a row.
“This is a fantastic achievement, and I wish them the best of luck for the national finals in June.”
