Findochty Primary School teacher named Primary School Teacher of the Year at Moray and Banffshire Heroes Awards 2025
A teacher has spoken of her great pride after being named Primary School Teacher of the Year at 2025’s Moray and Banffshire Heroes Awards.
At a glittering awards ceremony at the Banff Springs Hotel, Findochty Primary School teacher Caroline Ferguson was named the winner in the category.
Now in her seventh year of teaching at the school, Mrs Ferguson was nominated for her tireless work with her pupils, encouraging them to read more and socialise without screens and gadgets.
Her dedication has now been recognised and Mrs Ferguson took the time to express what it meant to receive the honour after she collected the award on stage.
She said: “I'm just completely overwhelmed, absolutely overwhelmed and so proud to have taken the award. Teaching means so much to me. It's not a job, it's my life, it's my being.
“Reading for me, that's obviously one of the main reasons I was nominated was for what I do with the children with reading.
“It's like a huge passion, it was an escape for me as a child. I try and instil that in the children, that it's a way that they can be in a different world, that they can have their health and wellbeing.
“It's the children that have made this, they embrace that and we've now got such a passionate reading school. This is for the children.
“Teaching has changed a lot in my short career really. Covid really impacted the way we could teach and it was about finding ways to inspire our children so to win this award, I must be doing something right.”
Sponsor of the Primary School Teacher of the Year category was Graintek UK.
