Elgin boy Oliver Sutherland aims to walk 100 miles during October for Breast Cancer Now
A “thoughtful and caring” nine-year-old boy aims to walk 100 miles during October to help his poorly mum.
Oliver Sutherland from Elgin is determined to raise money for Breast Cancer Now as his mum Jemma was diagnosed in mid-June.
The Seafield Primary pupil plans to walk about three miles every day during his month-long challenge, for which he’s already raised more than £926 in sponsorship after handing round forms at his school.
Proud grandma Louise George is in no doubt that Oliver is capable of completing the walking challenge.
She said: “His nickname in the family is Forrest because he runs everywhere. If we play golf he runs from one tee to the next.
“Oliver is amazing. He’s such a very thoughtful and caring little boy.
“And he’s really grown-up. He’s been so good helping out around the house and doing all his chores.”
Louise, who works as a nursing practitioner at the children’s centre at RAF Lossiemouth, held a coffee morning towards the start of September which raised a further £4431.80 for Breast Cancer Now.
She said: “It was just amazing how many people came. We held it at the football social club in Lossiemouth because it was a big venue, but it was barely big enough to fit everyone in.
“The community really came together and it was very, very busy.
“We have so many people to thank it would be difficult to name them all individually, but we are very grateful.”
