THE Conservatives in Moray have selected their candidate to contest the Elgin City North seat at the upcoming local elections.

Amber Dunbar (25) will be standing for election for the first time, having worked in Douglas Ross' constituency office for a number of years.

Speaking after her selection, Amber said: “I am honoured to have been selected to contest my home ward on Moray Council.

"Elgin has always been my home and I care deeply about the people and the community here.

"I want to see it the best it can be for everyone who lives here and I hope the residents of Elgin City North will put their trust in me to represent them.

“From properly repairing our roads, to ensuring that planning decisions benefit the area, residents of Elgin City North can be assured I’ll always stand up for their best interests.

"Regardless of their political preferences, they will be able to approach me for assistance on any issue.

“I’m looking forward to getting my campaign under way and meeting people across the area.”

Moray Labour chairman Sandy Keith (55) was selected to fight for election in Elgin City North for his party back in October.

These are the only two candidates to have been announced as standing in the area so far.

Local Tory MP and Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross has expressed his support for Amber.

“Amber will make an excellent Councillor for Elgin City North," he said.

"She has a real passion for ensuring the area is one where people want to make their home, which is vital as we seek long term solutions to stamp out local teacher and doctor shortages.

“Amber has lived in Elgin her entire life, worked in a number of local businesses and volunteered for numerous charities, giving her a solid understanding of the issues local residents face.

"She will go out of her way to ensure that peoples voices are heard."

Marc Macrae, chair of Moray Conservatives, said: “I have known Amber for several years over which she has worked tirelessly for both the local party and more recently working as a constituency assistant to our MP.

"She never shirks from any task, and I know she will make an excellent representative for the people of Elgin City North.”

Currently, there are two Tory councillors representing Elgin City North in Maria McLean and Frank Brown.

Cllr McLean will not be standing again due to living outwith the area.
