Councillor Donald Gatt has been reselected to stand in the seat he won in the 2017 poll, and he will be joined in the campaign by Grange resident Tracy Colyer.

Announcing the selection, Moray Conservatives Chairman Marc Macrae said: “I am delighted that Donald is seeking re-election, he has been a very strong voice in the council for the ward, working tirelessly to help wherever possible.

"With Tracy joining the team this is a great opportunity to elect councillors who deliver for Keith and Cullen.”

Commenting after his reselection, Councillor Gatt said, “I’m seeking re-election to the Keith and Cullen Ward for the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party as there needs to be a strong voice for Conservative Policies, financial responsibility and to stand up for the maintenance of local services such as education, road repairs, public toilets and waste collection and recycling.

“These services have suffered greatly under devolved SNP government with funding cuts to local councils, all while increasing the ring fencing of funds and the number of responsibilities without funding.

“As a Conservative and unionist, I want to see a strong Conservative administration which will end the deadlock in Moray and provide strong leadership, supporting communities leading to a sustainable Moray Council with lean efficient services easily accessible to the people of Moray.”

Ms Colyer added, “I’m really enthusiastic about this campaign and it is off to a great and positive start.

"I am thrilled that I will be working with local residents to make the Keith and Cullen ward an awesome area in which to live and run successful businesses.

“I know that both rural and town residents have different needs so I will ensure I take those needs into consideration and ensure the voices of both are heard. It is so important that rural residents are not left behind.

“I will act as an advocate and community leader, helping to ensure residents and businesses have someone who will champion them and keep their best interests at heart. I am currently in the process of setting up a committee that will establish a community welfare hub at King Memorial Hall to help residents in times of need, such as during recent storms.

“I cannot wait to get out to speak to more residents about the issues they face and seek solutions.”

Local MP Douglas Ross has endorsed both candidates.

“Both Donald and Tracy are ready to hit the ground running and continue the party’s calls for improvements across the ward.

"Donald has a track record as a councillor who delivers results for the local community.

“Tracy is incredibly passionate about her local area and living in Grange she knows the struggles faced in our rural communities. She wants to improve the sense of community in the area and create a welfare hub at the local hall which is a fantastic idea and one I fully support.”

A total of three seats are up for grabs in the Keith-Cullen ward.
