Cullen tourist office reopens to offer warm welcome for summer season

A Moray volunteer-run tourist office has opened ready to welcome visitors from near and far for the summer season.

The office, which is located on the ground floor of the former town hall on the Millennium Square, Cullen serves as a central hub for tourists seeking information about the town and the surrounding Moray, Speyside and Aberdeenshire regions.

Operated by the dedicated volunteers of Discover Cullen, the office will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026. The office provides a personal touch that enhances the visitor experience.

Discover Cullen Chair David McCubbin emphasises the importance of face-to-face interactions.

He said "In modern tourism, everyone is very much digital focussed with websites and social media, but we still think there is very much a place for being able to speak to somebody and welcoming them to come in and ask a question.

“By having a direct conversation our volunteers provide a warm welcome to Cullen and can really enhance the visitors experience."

Visitors can access a wealth of resources, including brochures, maps and personalised recommendations on local attractions, accommodations, dining and shopping. The office also highlights the town's rich heritage, encouraging exploration of sites including The Heritage Centre, Auld Kirk, the town’s walking routes and, of course, where to order a bowl of Cullen skink.

Discover Cullen is self-financing with all activities undertaken by volunteers with no paid staff. The group have a selection of retail items for sale in the tourist office and online shop which fund activities including the tourist office, website, Cullen map leaflet and signage.

Discover Cullen plays an active role in local, regional and national tourism initiatives through SCOTO (Scottish Community Tourism Network) whose mission is to seek to recalibrate tourism in Scotland to deliver for communities and the environment first.

Discover Cullen was established in the mid-1990s and has been instrumental in promoting the town's unique offerings, such as the annual Cullen Skink World Championships and the development of the Discover Cullen website and social media channels. These efforts aim to connect visitors with the community, fostering an experience where tourists feel like 'temporary locals.'

The tourist office is open daily during the school Easter holidays from 11am - 3pm. Visitors are encouraged to stop by for up-to-date information and insider tips to make the most of their stay in Cullen.
