Elgin sees thousands enjoy bonfire and firework display

Rotary Elgin brought an evening of family fun to Cooper Park with their annual bonfire and fireworks display on Saturday.

Michelle Anderson, a rotarian and one of the event’s organisers, said: “It was a fantastic night and as mild as you could ever hope for in November. Thousands came along to enjoy it.”

The bonfire was lit at 6.30pm on top of a grassy hillock in the park.

Half an hour later, it was then the time for the fireworks display to begin.

The honour of setting off the first was granted to three people of different ages.

With more than 40 years behind him, Hugh Carter is the longest serving member of Rotary Elgin.

Meanwhile, Riley McLaggan and the aptly named Blaze Donald are both members of the rotary family’s newest group, the Interact Club, which was recently set up for teenagers.
