Lossiemouth post office set to shut down

A seaside town is set to lose its post office when it shuts down next month.

Lossiemouth Post Office has been housed inside Buckley’s newsagent on Queen Street since 2016, when Tony Rook took on the franchise.

Tony Rook, owner of Buckley’s Newsagents in Lossiemouth, is closing the town’s post office.

Mr Rook now states the imminent retirement of a member of staff leaves him with little choice but to close the post office side of his business.

It is scheduled to shut on Wednesday, December 18.

Mr Rook said: “I feel like I’m letting the community down but it is out of my control.

“The rules and regulations mean that I can’t physically look after both my shop and the post office counter at the same time.”

Despite this, though, Mr Rook is at pains to stress that his newsagent shop is not shutting and will continue to operate as before.

He’s also of the belief that another party in Lossiemouth will be found to take over the post office franchise, although he accepts the town may have to go without for several weeks or possibly months.
