PUBLIC transport in Moray is returning to normal after flooding caused major travel disruption.

The Inverness to Aberdeen rail line had been closed on Monday and much of Tuesday, between Keith and Elgin, due to water on the track.

However, the line was fully reopened in time for commuters to return home last night.

The rail line closure had resulted in rail passengers having to rely on buses to get to their destination.

A day without rain yesterday also helped floodwater drain from a number of roads in Moray. Keith, Fochabers and Dufftown had been some of the worst affected areas.

Floodwater also disrupted some businesses, with water getting into warehouses owned by whisky company Chivas Brothers on the outskirts of Keith.

Some Huntly residents were evacuated from their homes on Monday, as fears increased that the River Deveron would burst its banks. However, they were told yesterday morning that it was safe to return home.

Adding to the travel woes of motorists has been the ongoing construction of the Fochabers Bypass, with reports that work on the A96 near Baxters has been causing huge tailbacks all week.
