Moray politicians praise Forres in Bloom at Westminster and Holyrood
A gardening group who "work tirelessly" to improve their town have made waves in Holyrood and Westminster.
Politicians from across the party divide tabled motions, across both parliaments, congratulating Forres in Bloom on winning gold at this year’s Britain in Bloom awards.
Highlands and Islands MSP Douglas Ross (Conservative) and MP for Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey, Graham Leadbitter (SNP) expressed their joy at the team’s win.
“This is fantastic news for Forres in Bloom and this prestigious award is richly deserved,” Mr Ross said.
“The group of volunteers work tirelessly all year round, no matter the weather, to keep Forres looking its best.
“I’m delighted to recognise their success and work with a motion in the Scottish Parliament.
“It shows how high a standard their displays are, when they held off competition from towns across the UK.
“The displays are a real credit to the town, and I know that this latest success will only spur on Forres in Bloom to continue their excellent work.
“I look forward to seeing what displays they come up with next.
“My congratulations also to volunteer Barry Ashby for his well-earned community champion award”.
Mr Leadbitter, who tabled an motion in the House of Comments, said: “It’s my pleasure to able to table a motion celebrating this fantastic achievement, and the hard work and toil of volunteers, in Parliament.
“This is a great win for the town and is a big payoff for the actions of local people who have put in a tremendous effort.
“Everyone involved should be very proud of themselves, and the civic pride they’ve helped to cultivate.”
The Britain in Bloom awards were held at the executive suite in the Alex Ferguson stand at Old Trafford, Manchester.
A total of 52 finalists from across the UK battled for gold awards across 11 categories.
In 2023, Forres in Bloom were joint-winners of Beautiful Scotland's premier award - the Rosebowl Trophy.
