He stated: “This House expresses its deep condolences following the death of Sir Jim Walker, former director of Walker’s Shortbread; recognises that not only was he a highly respected businessman and a giant in the food and drink sector, but a community-minded man who always strived to do right by his area and its people; and celebrates his legacy and his efforts to take Scotland to the world with the world-renowned products produced by Walker’s.

Sir Jim died at the age of 80 on Sunday, December 15.

Commenting at the time, Mr Leadbitter said: “The news of Sir Jim Walker’s passing is both shocking and unexpected.

“It is only a matter of weeks since I saw him at a community meeting in Speyside. He was there as a resident taking a keen interest in the region of Scotland that has been both his home and where he has grown a phenomenal family business.

“He was a highly respected businessman, a giant in the food and drink sector and took Scotland to the world with the world-renowned products produced by Walker’s.

“I know he will be sadly missed by many, many people. There’s his family and friends first and foremost, but also the wider Speyside and Moray community.

“There are many people who crossed paths with him and had the benefit of his quiet, understated manner but very wise counsel. That came from his decades of work as one of Scotland’s most well known business leaders.”
