Eight weeks with no coronavirus death in Moray, but two new cases

NO coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in Moray for the eighth week in succession.

However, two new cases of the virus have been confirmed – one on Sunday and one on Monday – taking the area's total since the outbreak began to 94.

No Moray resident died due to the virus between August 3 and August 9, with the area's coronavirus death toll remaining 20, according to the National Records of Scotland.

A total of 6387 coronavirus tests have been taken by Moray residents since the outbreak began, with 94 now positive and 6293 negative. Of those tests, 558 have been carried out in August.

After a coronavirus cluster in Aberdeen, the number of positive cases across Grampian has risen drastically.

In total, 252 cases have been confirmed across the Grampian region since the start of August. Scottish Government figures confirm at least 177 of those were in Aberdeen City, with 65 in Aberdeenshire and three in Moray.

However, there has also been no rise in the death toll across the NHS Grampian region – which remains at 260.

Scotland-wide update

Across Scotland, five people died with coronavirus between August 3 and August 9, taking the total to 4213, according to NRS figures. These numbers include all deaths where coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificate, even if the person hadn't tested positive for covid-19.

Five deaths is the lowest weekly total since the outbreak began, down on seven last week.

The Scottish Government's daily update showed 2491 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus.

Across Scotland, nobody who had tested positive for coronavirus has died for 27 days.

In total, 407,223 people in Scotland have been tested through NHS labs and regional testing centres, with 388,097 negative tests and 19,126 positive. A total of 4182 have been discharged from hospital after testing positive.
