Two new deaths as 217 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Moray within last week

TWO new coronavirus-related deaths have been confirmed in Moray – one last week and one the week prior.

The two deaths mean that 45 local residents have died due to Covid-19 since the outbreak began in March 2020.

Of the 45 people in Moray to have died of Covid-19, 33 tested positive for Covid-19 and passed away within 28 days, while 12 had the virus mentioned on their death certificate.

Meanwhile, total of 217 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Moray within the last week, taking the area's total since the outbreak began to 3787. Within the same time frame, 894 people have tested negative for the virus.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 38,094 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began.

Moray neighbourhood update

A total of 21 out of 24 different 'neighbourhood areas' in Moray confirmed at least three cases of coronavirus between September 20 and September 26.

Elgin remains the worst-hit town, with 58 cases. In Lossiemouth, 22 cases were confirmed, with 18 in Forres.

Eight cases were confirmed in Keith and Fife Keith, with six in Buckie.

Other areas with cases are:

  • Heldon West, Fogwatt to Inchberry: 16
  • Burghead, Roseisle and Laich: nine
  • Rural Keith and Strathisla: seven
  • Lhanbryde, Urquhart, Pitgavney and seaward: seven
  • Cullen, Portknockie, Findochty, Drybridge and Berryhillock: seven
  • Fochabers, Aultmore, Clochan and Ordiquish: four
  • South Speyside and the Cabrach: four

The number of people aged 16 plus in Moray to have received both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine is 68,873.

This accounts for 86.4 per cent of the area's adult population.

The number to have received one dose is 73,713 – or 92.5 per cent of all those aged 16 plus in Moray.
