The 56-year-old, who lives in the Balnageith area of Forres and is applying for British citizenship, broke her sternum in the accident which occurred near Auldearn on the afternoon of April 27 last year.

The impact also left a woman travelling in the other car with a broken sternum as well as a broken wrist.

In addition, that woman’s husband sustained a small fracture to his back. He also required two metal plates inserted into his arm and surgery on his wrist which left him with a 12-inch scar.

Darden admitted a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald deferred sentence until October 29 for a background report and disqualified her from driving in the interim.
