The CaberFeidh pub building in Elgin to be brought back into use after Moray Council approves plans

Plans to bring a long-vacant pub building in New Elgin back into use have been approved.

The CaberFeidh pub has remained empty for years following its closure after the pandemic.

However, it will now be converted into a hot food takeaway after plans submitted to Moray Council by local businessman Balal Ali were approved this month.

Mr Ali is the director of Qismat Street Food which has been serving food from a van in the pub’s car park over recent weeks.

It remains unclear, however, as to what type of food the new takeaway will serve.

The plans were given approval by the local authority despite concerns that an additional takeaway could add to traffic and parking problems.

One objection was raised but it was ruled that the proposals would be an asset to New Elgin by adding to the range of services in the area while also giving new life to a vacant building.

The plans are subject to certain conditions, however, including set opening hours of noon to 9pm.

The development itself will also only be allowed to be brought back into use when details of the ventilation and odour control system in the building’s kitchen have been submitted and approved by the Planning Authority.
