The Burning of the Clavie is steeped in history and is a community celebration which attracts attention all around the world.

Thousands of people normally descend on the coastal village each year to mark the start of the new year.

The Clavie Crew carry the burning barrel through the streets to the Doorie Hill where the flames light up the night sky.

In celebration of the Clavie, The Northern Scot and its sister papers in Highand News and Media will post a picture gallery of Clavie celebrations through the decades at 6pm tonight - the moment when the barrel would have been lit and started to make its way around the village.

Sadly there will be no scenes like last year in Burghead tonight but you can enjoy Clavie pictures from down the years at 6pm on The Northern Scot website. Picture: Daniel Forsyth
