RUNNERS in the first Virtual Glenlivet 10k have raised more than £8000 for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

The 11th annual run was unable to go ahead in April due to the Covid-19 lockdown. However, a virtual event took its place on Sunday, September 20.

More than 300 people took part in the "most beautiful run in Scotland".

Participants were encouraged to take on a scenic 10k run in their local area, in cities, countryside, over mountains, along rivers, whatever they could manage.

They were asked to take snapshots of their runs and share them to enter a prize draw.

Glenlivet Distillery provided each of the runners with a dram as well as an 18-year-old bottle of The Glenlivet single malt for the winner of the most beautiful shot, which will be announced on October 11.

Ollie Middleton, community and events fundraiser for the charity, said: "It was incredible to have so many of our runners take part in the virtual run this year.

"It has been such a difficult time for charities recently with fundraising events being cancelled, and I can’t thank everyone enough for their support. Every penny makes a huge difference right now.

"We have been completely blown away by the number of photographs that we received into the draw, from sunrises to sunsets and beaches to bridges."

She added: "The money from the Virtual Glenlivet 10k will go towards funding our vital 'Hospital to Home' service, making sure that no-one has to feel scared, isolated and alone when they return home from hospital.

"Your donations are helping people with chest, heart and stroke conditions, including Covid-19, do more than survive; you're helping them really live."
