Vision for Moray's future unveiled

The Moray Economic Strategy charts a way ahead for the region

A BOLD vision for a more resilient and vibrant future for the Moray economy has been unveiled.

Two reports – The Moray Economic Strategy and Elgin: City for the Future plan – aim to combat the area’s resilience on defence jobs, encouraging investment in emerging sectors while bolstering existing strengths.

The blueprints comes in the wake of October’s Strategic Defence and Security Review, which left the region contemplating the loss of both of its RAF bases.

RAF Lossiemouth’s recent reprieve, coupled with the Army’s commitment at Kinloss, has injected fresh optimism in the local economy. But the need for diversification has been hammered home and the strategies aim to underpin Moray’s economic development for the foreseeable future.

Moray Community Planning Partnership chair, Councillor George McIntyre, said every resident in Moray is a stakeholder and urged them to make their views known.

"As the RAF Lossiemouth result shows, the Moray community can achieve much when it pulls together," he said. "I hope to see that campaigning spirit maintained as we map out a more resilient economy for the future."

A series of consultation meetings will take place in September, while feedback can also be given online before consultation concludes at the end of October.

The strategies will be available on the council’s website or at libraries and access points as from Monday.
