WALK Moray received a Letter of Commendation earlier this month for their continued support throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

The group received the honour from Lord Lieutenant of Moray Major General Seymour Monro CBE LVO on November 10.

Volunteers run a variety of low-level, friendly outings throughout Moray to help people socialise and become more active.

Susan Johnston, Area Public Health Coordinator for Walk Moray, said: "We are delighted to receive this commendation. The Covid-19 pandemic was an anxious and challenging time for many people. For those who participated in our local walks it helped to improve their physical and mental health. It also allowed them to get out and connect with others and socialise at a time when many people were dealing with social isolation.

"I would like to say a big thank you to Sheila Sellar, Stretch to Step Coordinator, Claire Buchanan, previous Health Walk Coordinator, and of course the dedicated team of Walk Leader volunteers. Without their hard work and commitment Walk Moray would not be possible."

The latest honour caps a successful few months for the organisation. In September the group were awarded with Paths for All's Dementia friendly Walk accreditation for their Elgin walks. A further three walks are also set to be accredited.

Walk Moray is a joint project between NHS Grampian, Health and Social Care Moray and Paths for All.
