The club provided all the volunteers for the free run around the Cooper Park.

Race Director Kevin Morrison said the aim was two-fold – to remind people that the Moray Road Runners are back and fully operational again following the pandemic, and highlight that Parkrun cannot function each week without volunteers.

Kevin said: "It was just to raise awareness of the club. We are here and open to anyone who wants to join our club. There is no elitism, we are open to all.

"When I started running I was doing 5ks and moved up through the distances. A close friend of mine has gone from just doing 5ks to 100 mile ultras and winning them.

"There are no barriers to running for anyone at all.

"Parkrun is just under six and a half years old. It is here, it is free, every single Saturday at half past nine. We do need volunteers to come down and run the Parkrun.

"It is all about inclusivity and getting people running. If you do it under 20 minutes brilliant, if you do it in 45 minutes, who cares, you are doing something and it is fun on a Saturday morning.

"We are averaging about 150 to 160 people each week. Coming back from Covid there was a bit of worry about how many people we would get but now it is strong again.

"It is great to see people out enjoying themselves again on a Saturday morning."

The Moray Road Runners meet on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at different locations, and other training at weekends as well.

Kevin is currently in training for the London Marathon.

For anyone who is doing the Couch to 5k programme, the Parkrun and Moray Road Runners are both a natural progression.

There are all ages and abilities taking part in Parkrun each each week. Younger children must be accompanied by an adult.

Many people run with dogs or pushchairs and a number of people power walk the event each week.
