WATCH: Returning office Denise Whitworth pays tribute to Elgin Town Hall election staff
ELECTION staff are the engine room of any General Election process.
Without them, there would be no result, and while there is an increasing level of digitisation in general elections, the human touch is still very much needed.
The process in Elgin Town Hall, the venue for counting in the new Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey constituency, is well underway.
Across 59 polling stations and the main count in Elgin Town Hall, there are more than 260 staff involved, whether it is running the voting process at polling stations, delivering ballot boxes to the town hall and then verifying and counting the votes cast.
Denise Whitworth, the returning officer, paid tribute to their hard work and great humour.
