WATCH: Elgin Parkrun returns with record attendance in Cooper Park

ELGIN Parkrun bounced back with a bang and a record number of runners in the Cooper Park.

A record field of 273 runners were delighted to be back for the first time in 73 weeks.

A field of 273 runners took part in the first parkrun in the town for more than 73 weeks.

With physical distancing restrictions relaxed, parkruns across Scotland returned over the weekend.

And Elgin race director Deborah Main said it was great to see so many people take part.

The only stipulation was no high fives and more volunteers were needed to scan the finishers as they crossed the line.

"It was amazing, " said Deborah, "everybody has a big smile on their face and it's brilliant to see so many people in the park doing what they love.

"We can't predict the future and hopefully that's us up and running and we won't have to stop again.

"It was a quite nerve-racking this morning getting all set up.

"I think there were something like 50 parkruns in Scotland today."
