Elgin’s Bijou, on Batchen Street, recognised at Greats Gift Retailer Awards in London
A town centre business has scooped Independent Gift Retailer of the Year at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Bijou on Elgin’s Batchen Street celebrated a win at this year's Greats Gift Retailer Awards in London, which celebrates the best of gift shops across the UK.
Held at the Lancaster Hotel, the awards recognised the shop’s friendly staff, product selection and longevity.
Delighted with his achievement, Bijou owner David Robertson said: “Mum and I are absolutely over the moon.
“To receive this recognition in our 21st year feels like the ultimate coming-of-age gift.”
The pair are no strangers to the ceremony and have collected trophies at previous events.
The shop won this particular award once before - in 2011 shortly after it moved to its current home.
It has also twice won awards inspired by its range of costume jewellery.
This year, the judges celebrated Bijou’s great product selection, tastefully comprising key brands as well as unusual start-up companies.
They were also applauded for their staff’s excellent customer service and the longevity of their business - Bijou has been operating in Elgin for 21 years and in Buckie for 37 years.
“We love our shops, we love what we do,” said Mr Robertson.
“I honestly had no idea that we would win. The recognition is great for everyone.
“This award validates the passion and hard work that goes into every part of the Bijou experience.
“I would like to say a heartfelt thanks to our loyal customers, dedicated team and the wider industry for their continued support and encouragement.”
