THE Met Office has issued a number of yellow weather warnings affecting the north and Grampian for today through to Wednesday.

An ice warning is in place from 3pm today for a swathe of north and north-east Scotland. Icy stretches are expected to form due to showers.

Two warnings have been issued for tomorrow, Tuesday, January 4, for wind, and snow and ice. Some very strong winds are expected to bring disruption during the day across parts of the Highlands and Grampian. Frequent snow showers and icy stretches are expected, which could see travel disruption, particularly on higher routes.

A snow and ice warning is also in place for Wednesday, January 5. Again, frequent snow showers and icy stretches are expected.

Meanwhile, a flood warning was issued by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) yesterday and remains in place for Spey Viaduct to Spey Bay.

Sepa said a combination of high spring tides, storm surge and weather conditions means flooding from the sea could affect low-lying areas. Low-lying properties and roads in Kingston and Garmouth are at risk, including the B9015 Kingston road at high tides.

Sepa issued a flood alert this morning for Findhorn Nairn Moray and Speyside.

The agency said a combination of spring tides, a surge, wind and waves could cause coastal flooding along the Moray Firth today and tomorrow, with potential localised flooding of land and roads, and isolated flooding of properties. The risk will be greatest around high tide, which at Lossiemouth will be around 12.15pm today, and 1am and 1pm tomorrow.

Live flood updates from Sepa can be found here.
