Buckie High’s outstanding students in the spotlight at awards ceremony marks year of achievement
It was time for achievement in and out of the classroom to stand tall when a secondary school held its annual prizegiving.
Senior students from Buckie Community High School (BCHS) were honoured at a special ceremony in Highfield Hall looking back on the outstanding achievements of the school year soon to draw to a close.
It was an evening to remember for Luke Coull and Joe Sutherland who respectively won the S5 and S6 Dux Medals and Joe Mackay Awards.
Acting rector Sean Duffy told the audience at the ceremony that they were gathered to celebrate achievement in all its many forms.
He said: “Let me be clear; achievement isn’t just about being the best.
“It’s about being your best - growing, stretching, and pushing yourself further than you thought you could go.
“Every student here has the potential to achieve something remarkable. Our job as a school is to help unlock that potential.”
He went on to pay tribute to all those who had contributed to a successful school year as well as those who were heading for pastures new.
Mr Duffy also unveiled Jemma Playfair - currently the Rector at Milne’s High School - as the new boss at BCHS after the summer holidays.
Rounding of his address, he had one final message for this years prizewinners, namely that the biggest change for them was yet to come.
He continued: “As you move on to new chapters, remember this: change is not something to fear.
“It is the engine of progress. The world will continue to shift around you. Let it shape you - but never let it define you.”
“In closing, I want to leave you with this thought; those who thrive are not always the strongest or the smartest, but those most open to change.
Guest speaker for the eventing was former pupil Richard Simpson from Simpson’s Ice Cream.
