Elgin skater Everly wins gold at national event

A young Moray ice skater has triumphed at the first nationwide competition of the year.

Everly Pinch, who’s from Elgin, won gold in the seven and under category at the Skate Kirkcaldy contest near Edinburgh, beating off a field of 15 other hopefuls.

The youngster, who turned eight last Friday, scored particularly highly from the judges for her ‘sit spin’.

This tricky manoeuvre involves crouching down and twirling around upon one leg while the other is extended straight out in front.

Keeping it in the family, Everly’s sister Savannah Rose Pinch took silver in the under 11s competition with an impressive score of 21.74 points.

Meanwhile, teammates Emme Mackintosh and Isla McManus took bronze and 4th respectively, giving Moray Figure Skating Club a finish of 2nd, 3rd and 4th out of a very large field of 30 competitors.

All three Moray skaters gained personal best scores.

Adding to the local medal haul was Jaya Beaton who won silver in the 12 and over event with a personal best score, plus Cameron Wilkie who captured bronze in the National 2 boys competition.

Meanwhile, Emily Richie narrowly missed out on a podium place in her first national event, taking 4th in her competition.

Great performances were also given by Miley Buchan in the National 4 girls and Leyla Adams who narrowly missed the podium on her debut in the category for eight and nine-year-old skaters.

Graham said: “We're thrilled with yet more great results, taking home to Moray a gold, two silvers and two bronzes.

“We’re one of the most successful skating clubs in the country and are always on the lookout for new members.

“Our Superskate sessions, on Fridays at Moray Leisure Centre, are great fun and open to anyone who has passed Skate UK level 4 and above.”
