Forres in Bloom’s young volunteers to appear on BBC’s The One Show
Green-fingered young volunteers will feature on the most popular magazine TV show in the UK.
‘The One Show’, screened every week night at 7pm on BBC1, has requested footage of the Wee FIBees at work - the junior section of Forres In Bloom (FIB).
FIB secretary Sandra Maclennan confirmed the request came ahead of the main group’s participation in Monday’s Britain in Bloom competition.
She said: “We had contact from the BBC - The One Show wanted some video of The Wee FIBees. I don’t know if this means they are to receive an award?
“We filmed several snippets of them lifting tatties, picking plums and apples, planting in their miniature village and planting seeds.”
The One Show features topical stories and studio guests. Various reporters also assist with subject-specific presenting in the studio and on location, or through filmed segments.
The Wee FIBbees volunteers club was started in 2008 when FIB was offered use of the greenhouse and garden - then belonging to Moray Council - at Grant Park.
Their projects have included: maintaining flower beds and containers; growing vegetables; designing and making panels for the fence in their garden; incorporating their artwork in interpretation boards throughout Forres; and developing a stumpery using fallen tree roots.
Sandra said: “In the summer, The Wee FIBbees planted 60 sunflowers around Forres House Community Centre to celebrate 60 years of Britain in Bloom.
“I’m trying to find out when the footage of them at work will be screened!”
