Blame me, but back my men, says Elgin boss
UNDER-fire Elgin City manager Ross Jack says he’s ready to take the supporters’ flak for Wednesday’s humiliating 5-1 defeat to Highland League Formartine United.
City buckled to an embarrassing loss at North Lodge Park in the Ramsdens Cup, conceding four second-half goals after having stopper Sean Crighton sent off for the second time this season.
The tie hinged on a penalty decision at 1-1 which led to Crighton’s dismissal, after which Jack admitted his team was “comprehensively” beaten.
Struggling City were also defeated 3-0 at East Stirling in League 2 on Saturday, and Wednesday’s stunning reversal was their fourth defeat on the bounce.
Manager Jack knows City’s supporters are angry with their team’s poor start, and is prepared to take all the criticism and fire his players up for this weekend’s visit to North rivals Peterhead.
“There’s a rotten atmosphere in there just now but we have to pick ourselves up from this,” said the deflated City boss after Wednesday’s match. “We can’t be lost in the doom and gloom.”
“We have to dig deep now because everybody is writing us off. We just need to regroup as a unit, stick close as a team and stay united.
“People are trying to blow us apart, our own fans and other people having pops at us. And they are entitled to after that.
“The supporters have got every right, they pay their money they can do what they want. But right now the boys need them backing them.
