Elgin Amateur Boxing Club stages fight night at Elgin City’s Borough Briggs social club with some powerful performances from Moray prospects
Twelve thrilling bouts entertained the crowd at Elgin Amateur Boxing Club’s annual show.
Elgin City’s Borough Briggs social club was the venue for a dinner and sporting spectacle showcasing the talents of the Brodie Place club.
The best bout of the night turned out to be Elgin boxer Ben Banford’s all-action contest against Cathedral BC’s Richie Webster, which Banford won on a unanimous verdict.
International cap Lukas Vaitekunas wasted no time to winning his bout, stopping opponent Anton Bodkin (Lochaber) in the second round.
And there was an extra accolade for teenager Tyler Sked, who as well as defeating Byron BC’s Josh Johnston on a unanimous points decision, was given the club’s boxer of the year award on the night.
Top of the bill was Elgin’s Jacob Ballingall who, after a tricky first round showed his class by forcing a standing count then forcing the referee to stop the fight in the third round.
Also representing Elgin were Finlay McKerrell in an exhibition against Marcus Bodkin (Lochaber), while another of the club’s international caps, Corey Rizza fought out an exhibition against Kincorth’s Cameron Fraser.
Home prospect Nathan Green won by knockout against Cole Snee (Skyaxe BC) and team-mate Robert Mclean earned the home cheers with a split decision verdict in his favour against Liam Wilkinson (Inverurie).
Buckie High schoolboy Jose Imlach lost on a 3/2 split against Byron’s Jude Deakin, while another Elgin hopeful Billy Chalmers lost on a points verdict in favour of Dexter Purse (Gears BC).
Marcus McEwan faced the boxer he beat in the final of this year’s Scottish Golden Gloves 75kg contest, Granite City’s Laju Rowayinor.
This time the Aberdeen visitor had his hand raised after a 4-1 verdict in his favour from the judges.
