Keith Football Club chairman apologised as Kynoch Park floodlights temporarily go out to delay Aberdeenshire Shield tie against Fraserburgh which had already been postponed five times

There was another twist to the long-running Aberdeenshire Shield sage between Keith and Fraserburgh last night.

The tie had already been postponed five times dating back to November as the winter weather took its toll on the Kynoch Park pitch.

It appeared to be sixth time lucky last night as the pitch was playable, until floodlight problems caused a one-hour kick off delay prompting an apology from Maroons chairman Andy Troup.

“I would like to apologise to Fraserburgh Football Club and all fans tonight for the delay in the kick off,” he said on the club’s social media.

“This was caused due to an issue with the floodlights and some fuses had to be replaced.”

Troup thanked the Advanced Electrics firm who quickly came to Keith’s assistance, as well as a visiting Fraserburgh fan and former hydro board employee who helped resolve the matter.

The wait to 8.45pm for kick off didn’t hamper Broch, particularly as they made a dream start with a stunning 30-yard volley from Aidan Sopel after just two minutes.

Logan Watt’s second half double eased the Buchan men into the semi-finals where they will visit Turriff United.

Formartine United host Hermes in the other semi-final.
