Elgin City women’s football team stave off Dunipace comeback to progress to Scottish Gas Scottish Cup third round draw and a possible shot at Rangers or Celtic
Elgin City’s women’s football team is dreaming of a Scottish Cup tie against one of the Glasgow giants after a thrilling victory on Sunday.
City go into the third round draw alongside Rangers, Celtic and Scottish women’s premier league leaders Glasgow City at 6pm tonight.
It’s reward for the Black and Whites’ 4-3 success over Dunipace at Borough Briggs.
A Lily Morrison brace and an Alexa Mann goal had Elgin three goals ahead of their Stirlingshire opponents at the break.
Mia Lundberg made it 4-0 on 70 minutes to seemingly sew it up, before Dunipace staged a late comeback to score three goals and make City sweat it out for victory.
A penalty save by home keeper Maizy McAfee helped get the Black and Whites over the line.
They have now reached the final 32 in the competition and will discover their opponents today, dreaming of a match against one of the big guns.
