In line with Scottish Government advice, Cricket Scotland have unveiled a nine-point plan under which only two households up to a maximum of eight people can turn up to training at the one time, among other measures.

Buckie Cricket Club president Andy Ballantyne said that the news does not alter the club's stance outlined in April that the amateur club season should be written off and the focus placed firmly on preparations for a return to action in 2021.

He said: "It changes nothing as far as we're concerned, I can't see it being worth it playing cricket this year.

"For a start, the time just isn't there by the time clubs got up and running to do anything meaningful plus the safety concerns we had back in April haven't gone away.

"We're constantly monitoring the situation and consulting with the players, but the vast majority do not want to play in the current circumstances. There hasn't been an awful lot of information come our way so far but what we've seen hasn't persuaded us to change our view it simply isn't worth it resuming cricket, certainly at this level.

"My personal opinion on this is that Cricket Scotland have made the wrong call here – it'll be interesting to see what other clubs think."

The North of Scotland Cricket Association are due to meet on Tuesday, July 14 to decide a way forward for the remainder of the north cricket season.

Cricket Scotland have created a new webpage containing advice and guidance for clubs.
