The club dropped out of the north junior football league in 2020 but regrouped this year to take part in the Moray welfare league, and won the Premier Division title in their debut campaign.

Buckie also reached the final of both cup finals to set up a possible treble, and took care of part two of the challenge with a hard-fought success over the Villa side they just pipped to the league title.

Fiske netted what proved to be the only goal of the game after 18 minutes, starting and finishing a flowing move with Jordi Mackie providing the low cross for him to sweep home.

Aberlour, in their centenary year, fought hard to match their opponents but found a resolute Rovers defence too hard a nut to crack.

The league’s top scorer, 21-goal Marcus Murray almost levelled for Villa with a deflected shot which Buckie keeper Glen Fraser did well to push away at his near post.

The Speysiders enjoyed good spells in the second half but defences were on top throughout the contest, which was played throughout a clinging coastal fog where visibility was limited at times.

Chances were limited, and Buckie held on for victory to claim the trophy, with captain Declan Clark stepping up to receive the silverware.

The final match of the Moray welfare season sees Buckie Rovers take on Cullen at Elgin City’s Borough Briggs stadium in the final of the WJ Tewnion Trophy on September 20.
