Elgin Cycling Club hosts - and wins - at national and regional 100-mile time trial championships
A CYCLING club was given the honour of hosting a prestigious double 100-mile championship time trial race last weekend.
Elgin Cycling Club hosted the race, which was for national and regional championship medals, on Sunday, July 21, with five of its own members taking part, and four winning medals.
There were 18 entrants in total - from local clubs, the central belt, Deeside and Aberdeenshire.
Riders set off at one-minute intervals from 6am to race two and a half laps between the Cromarty Bridge and Dornoch Bridge roundabouts.
The race determined national and regional champions in the Scottish Cycling Calendar – with the first three riders finishing within one minute of each other’s times, all very close to the four-hour mark.
In the regional championship, Elgin Cycling Club took all the top awards with Sam Glover, David Hutcheson and Jamie Riddoch coming home with a one-two-three.
Elgin Cycling Club chairperson Lorna Breetzke took the first female medal ahead of Lorner Shearer from Moray Firth Cycling Club.
Event organiser Diane Maciver thanked all who helped run the event including marshalls, time keepers and first aiders.
