Dennis is Clyde's menace as City win
A FIRST league win of the season had Elgin City manager Ross Jack beaming on Saturday.
City beat Clyde 1-0 at Borough Briggs thanks to veteran Dennis Wyness's 61 minute strike, and Jack was pleased with his team's second half showing in difficult conditions.
“We carried on where we left off last week at Peterhead and it was important to get this win,” Ross said.
“I thought we controlled the game pretty well and it was fitting that Dennis came up with the goal because he was the best player on the park.”
At 36, Wyness showed he still has a big contribution to make for City in League 2 this term.
His clever link up play was a rare aspect of success for the home side in a scrappy first half of few scoring opportunities.
City needed keeper Ray Jellema to be sharp to deal with a Scott Ferguson volley as Clyde looked lively with the wind at their backs.
But a couple of substitutions helped Elgin to turn the match in their favour. One of the subs, Ally MacKenzie, started a move which led to Brian Cameron teeing up Wyness for a left foot finish to earn all three points.
City played Georgian Dachi Khutsishvili as a trialist for the second game running, with Jack still keen to make the move permanent.
The Black and Whites are still ninth in League 2 but are within touching distance of the play-off places once more.
They have no game next Saturday due to the international weekend, and are next in action when they host Montrose on September 14.
